The NEW Pelican Bay Aquatic Center

The Aquatic Center, built in 1976, had reached its functional and physical obsolescence as it approached its 25th year of operation for the community. This pool, while unique and quite comprehensive in scope in 1976, developed structural problems that no longer met the industry standard for aquatic programming.

The Edmond Capitol Financing Committee, after considering their options, recommended that we not continue making maintenance repairs to the old facility but instead take a more aggressive step. The committee, with the support of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, decided to take Edmond Aquatics into the new millennium by building a newly designed municipal aquatic facility - one that meets industry standards and trends.

As a result of this decision, an architectural firm was hired and demolition of the site began, August 15th.  The new Pelican Bay Aquatic Center's Grand Opening was June 7th, 2002!

Edmond residents will be pleased with the new "Pelican Bay Aquatic Center." The facility comes with a new name to match the excitement that customers will expect to have on their visits.

One body of water, with new state of the art amenities, serves all ages and aquatic programming.
A large outdoor recreation area is included with a water playground feature that focuses on automated sprays and a participatory play area. Access into the pool is made easy with a zero beach entry.  Near the pool area is a splash down pool featuring two 150-foot waterslides.  One slide is open flumed and the other closed for more of a thrill. The leisure pool area is connected to a lap pool that hosts six 25-yard lanes with future anchors to attach a play feature when lanes are not being used. A twelve feet water depth allows for diving on a one-meter board. In addition, new octagon shaped bathhouses were designed to host showers, lockers, and family changing areas. All of this plus a new concession area will quench your appetite and thirst you'll work up at this new Aquatic Center!
